We talked last week about God creating all the Earth for us to have. We were to replenish, care for and live off all that he has given us. We can say we would all agree that we are to be good stewards with the resources of the Earth, the animals, and vegetation. I want to expand on this a little more with our topic today. When we listen to the current news, we here of doom and gloom of we are using too much of our resources, we will run out in -fill in the blank – years and the end of civilization. And so, we start hearing even from our world leaders this fear mongering to get us to do what they believe is the correct way to "save” the planet/humanity. We start finding ourselves using” I am afraid”, "I fear” a lot when it comes to our own humanity. I am not talking about the petty things like I am afraid of spiders and such, I do believe that is more of an irrational take on the word fear. I do find when we hear a lot in what is going on in the World especially in politics, we can get ourselves caught up on this fear anxiety and allow it to effect our daily lives.

So lets look at some scriptures.

The book of Joel Joel Chapter 2

(21) Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things. (22) Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength. (23) Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. (24) And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil. (25) And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. (26) And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. (27) And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

In this passage of Joel writes in response of locusts destroying the land. He describes them as an invading army, and symbolizing the greater destruction to those who do not repent and heed the word of the prophet. I like how he uses the resources for providing in describing the great things God will do. Read the whole chapter it is rich.

When I read this I think of how far our world governments have abandoned God and now with their power are playing god in the abuse of power when it comes to trying to manipulate the population. We can at time see them as an invading army with the policies and tactics they enforce. I am not trying to make any political statement. It is usually world leaders/organizations that try to instill this fear across the world. The one thing to note is there is always a "happy ending", with God. Yes, we will see and have to endure tough times, but God always promises to restore.

More Scripters:

2 Timothy 1:7   For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Psalm 23:4   Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

If you get a chance, go and read Luke Chapter 12 verses 22-31. I shared in the comments last week. We should never fear or be afraid about what is said concerning the welfare and contents of this world. God will always provide for us.

If you want to have some fun, look up how many times the Bible says, "FEAR NOT”!

There is so much that can be said about the word fear and how we have allowed it to infiltrate our lives. There are more areas in our life we can see where fear creeps in, but just wanted to finish off with what we were talking about last week.

Googling how many times "fear not" or "be not afraid"  is in the Bible comes to 103 times in the KJV.  However the word "fear" is mentioned over 500 times it says.    So I will have to take that as an answer.  :-)

I completely agree with Mike about gov't using fear mongering and such fear invoking language today. Why? I think it keeps up the confusion and stress among the people.
Worrying is a lack of faith isn't it? In a nation that is trying to fall completely away from God...makes sense to keep the population feeling scared and hopeless.

In Luke 12 Jesus is telling the crowd to watch out for covetousness, be on the guard against greed, that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.  Why?
Does it distract us? Does it worry us?  Does it steer us in the wrong direction? Does it make us sin?

God has told us he will provide for us like he does the birds and animals and flowers. Even referencing a raven which was considered 'unclean.'  Yet God still provides for it.  So shouldn't we know that God will provide for us if He cares that much  for the  animals that are below us that He put on the earth for us to have dominion over?
Does the devil use fear? Absolutely.  He is the great deceiver, after all.  So when we focus on fear, distractions, and lies...its pulls us away from listening to God.  And if we are so wrapped up in fret and worry in our lives, don't we miss seeing what God's doing for us?  That's the devils hope: to make us feel God's not there for us.

What does worrying do?   Is it a lack of faith?   We all worry.  But God asks us to put our burdens upon Him.  Why?  He wants us to know that He does and will provide.
We may not get the answers or provisions WE want.  God does what HE wants, and He already knows our needs.  Sometimes what we want and need isn't what God thinks we want and need.
If someone were to ask you this..."what can you not live without?"
What would your answer be????  Your phone?  Money?  What else do you think some would say?
(Don't say food and water like Jim did....lol)

What about those that worry about that brand new pair of Jordans, or the newest Iphone... gotta have that when it hits the store...people obsess over having the best and most current of possessions that come out...why?  Because its about an image you portray to others of having the best and newest of a highly coveted item,
especially if its endorsed by famous people, or famous brands.   It's not about impressing God at all, its impressing people or yourself.  Why are two pieces of cloth, etc... the same --- until you put a brand on it?
Is there a difference in worrying about food, water, a piece of clothing, money?   He doesn't say quit your job and wait on me.   God wants us to work and provide for ourselves, and to provide for our family.  We also have to trust that in times of trouble/need He will provide for us.
Jesus spent a lot of time telling the  disciples to trust Him and not worry about the things in life.  We will all face hardships of some sort in this life.  Money, love, relationships, marriages, children,  jobs, finances....the list goes on.
I think God understands when we worry that it is destructive.   For our mental and spiritual frailty,  and our physical health. It can cause depression and illnesses.
Doesn't  that pull us away from God?  When we worry ourself to death over something that we lose our focus to talk to God, lean on Him and trust His word?
God doesn't move to satisfy OUR objectives and wants and needs. He does it for HIS.   We will never understand a lot of things in this life, but it is all working to the end of our life and joining HIM in heaven.
Paul suffered greatly.  Yet he never used that to complain or worry. In Romans 8: 18 he says  "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."  {Glory= God, to me.}
I can personally attest that when you ask God to take control over something you worry about, He will.    I remember crying, pouring out my heart to God and saying  I accepted good or bad of the situation, that I knew it was Gods will no matter what.  It was all under his control anyways.  Worrying was taking away a part of my life.
I never lost another night of sleep or worried about it.  I accepted that God was in control and that me worrying would never change anything that was already God's will.   Worry does not change a circumstance or problem.   I still worry  sometimes about things, but not to the point I let it take away my ability to still trust in God and wait on him to provide for me.  After all, we are flawed humans.
Provide comfort. Provide peace. Provide direction.  Provide whatever HIS will is.
The greater we keep our focus on God and trusting Him the less our worries should be. God will keep His promise to always provide for us if we lean not on the things of this earth.

Cindy that is a great response. As I was doing my study I had a certain question cross my mind.
Suppose we do run out of oil or any other natural resource as our World leaders project?
From the beginning, mankind has thrived without the technologies of the past 200 years. I think it would actually cause us to once again rely upon God for provision more in our daily lives. In my opinion in short answer, running out of these resources would actually do mankind good. Though I enjoy my fun machines, cars, phone, 4wheeler, I can honestly say they I would be no worse if I did not have them. I do believe a lot of these things take our focus off God, that is why it is easy for us to fear, or to be worried about things we should not fear or be worried about.

Just think of what a nuclear war would do. Talk about setting us back in time.      Can you imagine how people would be if the cell phone system went down?   No electricity?   Everyone is so dependent on the things of this world... They didnt have all this stuff hundreds of years ago.... Yet they survived with so much less.   We are indeed spoiled. Maybe thats the problem.  And God knows it.
