Luke 11:14-16

(14) And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. (15) But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. (16) And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

 Matthew 12:22-23

(22) Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. (23) And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

I purposely included both passages in two places in the Bible being they are short that pertain to the miracle being performed. Strangely enough, not much information is given on the particulars of this miracle. If we read past these verses, it goes into another subject that we will study at a different time. I purposely did not include them.

I like how Luke phrases it, "He was casting out a devil, and it was dumb”. Luke did not say the man was dumb, but the devil. That will get your gears rolling. As mentioned, a few studies ago we will do a more in debt of the spirits Jesus is casting out. In some of the previous studies, some people who had these infirmities were possessed and some weren’t. Even so, the people around knew a devil was being cast out. So we know in this instant that as soon as the devil is cast out, the man could see and speak immediately. We can take with this and from other studies, that these devils, unclean spirits, etc. do not want to be around Jesus, and Jesus has all authority of them.

 Let’s look at these verses.

Ephesians 6:12  "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high place.”

Deuteronomy 20:4 "for the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”

Matthew 28:18  "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

Luke 9:1 "Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.”

Luke 10:19 " Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Jesus has complete dominion and authority over the devil. Through Jesus, He has also given us the same. We must understand and exercise the only way to combat is through reading God’s word and praying daily and as much as possible. We only allow ourselves to be defeated. The devil cannot defeat us without our permission.

James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Ephesians 6 needs to be a living part of our life.

Ok, I thought the same thing about the "demon was mute". I don't even know where to go with that.

But, that the mute spirit also prevented the man from being able to speak.
Of course the accusations that Jesus was using the devil to cast out the devils demons.. is a bit ridiculous... because that would be the devil defeating itself. They could not dispute his miracles, so they just say He is with working with evil spirits accusations. Jesus' power keeps Him in conflict with the religious authorities, and they did not want to believe He was who He was, their Messiah, the son of God.
And, you are right, evil spirits do not like anything about Jesus' power. His words alone make them leave a persons body. Satan and his evil cohorts have to obey Jesus.
The devil has to be let in, or invited in...every single day the devil is trying to be engaged in our lives in any way, shape or form to just try and get a foot in that door that if it is slightly cracked open.... and get a hold on us. We have to use the power of Jesus to shield us, protect us and make evil sprits flee from us and our lives. Using the armor of God (using Gods truth, His words of power) Ephesians 6: 10-17
16 says " Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherein ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."
1 Peter 5:8 "... be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about (the earth),
seeking whom he may devour. "

HAH, I was hoping you would mention 1st Peter 5:8. I purposely did not mention that.

When I have bad dreams and wake up startled, I have a hard time falling asleep.  Grandma Hall along time ago taught me the phrase "Devil, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus".  I say that repeatedly until those thoughts leave me and I am able to fall back to sleep.  It is amazing how a simple phrase can cast the devil out.

I also remember grandma Hall telling me that too at one time.
