Turning water into wine.

Now That Jesus is here, lets start going over the miracles He performed. We will try to knock these out in the order they happened.

Jesus turns water into wine.

John 2:1-11

(1) And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: (2) and both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. (3) And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. (4) Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. (5) His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. (6) And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. (7) Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. (8) And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. (9) When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, (10) and saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. (11) This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

This is a great passage of Jesus’s first miracle. It is pretty much cut and dry and straight to the point. As I read this, a few things I see that I think is pretty important.

The 1st thing is Mary makes it pretty clear to Jesus that He needs to do something about them not having wine. The one thing to note is Jesus also makes it clear that it wont be on her or His time but Gods. Yes, Jesus will perform the miracle but the timing has to be in God’s plan.

The 2nd thing is Mary understood Jesus’s comment and wisely told the servants to do what Jesus instructs them to do. This is an act of obedience that we must adhere to for God to do miracles in our life.

The 3rd thing is Jesus would need vessels to work with. Are we a willing vessel, are we empty of impurities, or are we so full of junk that there is no room for anything to be added to our lives. There can be so many things that can account for why we do not see any viable presence of God in our lives.

The 4th thing is Jesus will always give you His best. The customs back at that time is that the good wine would be served first, and after everyone was already drunk/buzzed however you want to put it, then they would serve the not so good wine. So even after all the wine had been drunk, He still provides good wine even though it would not have mattered at the time. Jesus will always give you His best.

We have to remember in our lives, we do have needs. We have to make sure we wait upon God, let His timing be perfect, continue to be obedient, empty ourselves of anything that would effect ourselves becoming full of God. We then can expect the Best God has to offer us. We can give Him the Glory and will have great testimonies to share with others.

Some extra reading:

James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

This is considered the first miracle of Jesus.
I like how he says "woman" to His mother when she asks if there is 'something' he could do.
I want to think that perhaps this wedding was with some people close to their family or related somehow to them.  Because Jesus and His mother are there. And of course He takes some disciples too.  Mary had great favor with God. I mean , come on, she was chosen to bear His son.  She knew who Jesus was, and had to have seen things that only solidified her belief in God and what Jesus was sent to do.  Jesus replying it isn't time to reveal myself yet, but yet he still does it for His Mom.
A wedding was a big deal back then. And the family putting on the festivities for it, would have been looked down on for running out of anything that was needed for the event.  Thats why I wonder if Jesus' Mom asking Jesus to make wine was so that it would not be said that they had no more wine, and to 'save face' so to speak,  to that family.  Wine was apparently a big deal for everyone.  Only the servants and His disciples and His Mom knew of the miracle.
They then remarked, they saved the very best wine for last!!  Like Mike said, custom was to serve the best in the beginning. After they are all tipsy they dont know they are getting the so-so wine. LoL

Our bodies are vessels waiting to be blessed and  filled by Jesus.  We need patience like you said Mike.  We wait on what Gods will is for our vessel. Empty the garbage in it and put in the good of God and His Word.  Wait on His timing. Be patient.
