It can now be confirmed that 3 soldiers were killed, and 1 severely injured
in the blast that occurred
several days ago. Their names have not been released, still pending some
family notifications.
The local hospital also confirmed there is one soldier still in the ICU
unit, under heavy guard at this time.
The surviving soldier is in serious, but stable condition. He is reported
as having 2nd and 3rd degree burns
on his body, and his left arm was amputated due to the horrific injuries he
sustained trying to save his fellow men.
The doctors have already preformed one round of surgeries, and are waiting
until he is more stable to continue with more surgeries to remove some shrapnel
pieces still lodged in his body. Hospital officials told us" General Jim Bob Un
rushed to see him and was briefly able to speak with him, as he was alert and
communicating." The chief surgeon was quoted as saying "The soldier is in good
condition for the serious nature of his injuries, and we think he will make a
full recovery."
Preliminary reports from the field are saying a man has been detained
claiming to be from Halland. He was taken into custody by the military running
from the scene after walking onto the field area where a military exercise was
being conducted in the country side about 20 miles south of the Halland border.
Soldiers reported "he just all of a sudden appeared near some vehicles and we
walked him to the back where we had a staged resting area" Captain Oliver
went on record to say " He was carrying a backpack, seemed lost and very
friendly when chatting with us. He set
his backback down where several guys were setting up some artillery
equipment, and then he started running away."
Staff Sergeant Donnelly said " all of a sudden BOOM!! we all fell
backwards, smoke everywhere, it was awful."
Several other soldiers further from the blast noticed the guy running and
captured him before he could get away.
The General, at the time of the incident, was at another location observing
the exercises about 12 miles away.
He has ordered a huge military presence just inside the
Halland/McDonaldland border. They are patrolling 24 hours a day now. A high
ranking official, who wished to remain anonymous, said "This is a very serious
matter. These fine men were only conducting routine military exercises, they
were not a threat to anyone. This is absolutely unacceptable and inexcusable.
Now if you will excuse me, I have 3 families to go and try to explain why their
loved ones have died this way."
There are no official reports on what exactly caused the explosion, type of
device or a motive.
We also could not get the name of this individual.
The locals townspeople were reporting the man being brought into town under
military custody. "He looked a bit bloody and bruised" said local resident
Cindy Cooper. "Plenty of soldiers around him.
