Week 5 Review
Written by Wendi
And just like that, ten ranked teams lost.  To be fair, some were against other ranked teams.  But still…It was fun to watch.  This is what College Football is all about.  What looked like a runaway with Ole Miss, Kentucky kept staying right on their heels.  It took fumbles on the last three possessions for Kentucky in plus territory to seal the win for Ole Miss.  I don’t know about you, but after that last fumble, I may have screamed a bit as I had 8 points riding on that game.  I thought for sure Kentucky was going to win.  It took the 4th quarter for Kansas State to finally put away Texas Tech.  It’s great when they beat Texas but Texas Tech is like that mosquito that won’t go away.   You keep hearing that buzzing sound.   Kansas State went on to win 37-28.
Only Sean thought Utah and Oregon State would be a good matchup.  Like the week before, Oregon State had 4 INT’s.  That is eight interceptions in two weeks.  Maybe it is time to shift gears and make some adjustments.   Oregon State had more total yards, more 1st downs, and more TOP.  BUT, four turnovers will get you every time.  Sean, maybe you need a new team.  I heard the good old "Lane Train” has more room.  You live in Mississippi now.  Utah beat down the Beavers 42-16.
With everyone going 9 and 10 points on Bama, it was no surprise that it was 28-7 at the half.   But of course, no one can predict Bryce Young would go out with a shoulder sprain.  Everything spiraled downhill after that and allowed Arkansas to get within 5 points at the end of the 3rd quarter by outscoring them 16-0. After adjusting to the new QB, Bama went on to win 49-26.  I will admit, I was worried.  But hey, we would all lose big, right?  Oh and Auburn blew a 17-0 lead to lose to LSU.  I know this wasn’t on the picks but I just had to throw it in there.  I think their Head coach is purposely losing.  Hey Mike, what is the buy-out for Harsin?  Is there a GoFundMe page?
Baylor finally got going in the 3rd quarter by outscoring Oklahoma State 22-17.  But they were no match with Oklahoma’s defense with two INT’s late in the game.  The Cowboys went on to win 36-25 and believe it or not folks, Kansas is ranked #1 in the conference right now and there are only three remaining unbeaten teams in the Big 12.  I know we are all thankful that Texas beat Wet Virginia.  Please quit putting them on the picks David.  It worked out for us this week (except Noah) but we may not be so lucky next time.  West Virginia never stood a chance and lost 38-20.
I would have never predicted Florida State to have a meltdown.  With all the hype and talk about "Florida State is back” this year, what a dud of a game this turned out to be.  Wake Forest’s offense was way too much for the Seminole defense to handle.   You can say they were missing a couple key players on defense but this looked the Florida State team we have been use to seeing the last few years.  After starting 7-0, it was all Wake Forest from there on out.  The Demon Deacons won out 31-21.
Washington State never looked back after going in to the half leading 14-3.  They went on to give Cal their second loss 28-9.  It got dicey and scary for the Tigers in Death Valley Saturday night.  No, not the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge.  Clemson kept NC State closer than what I wanted.  But as we know, the #5 team in the country found a way to gain some separation in the second half.  Maybe their offense is finally firing on all cylinders.  Never the less, Florida State plays NC State this weekend.  Will it be on the picks?  My guess is YES. It’s the only way David can insure that Adam will lose 1st place.
Another matchup in the ACC was Duke and Virginia. Duke handed the Cavaliers their third loss of the season with a 38-17 win as Duke sits up top in the Coastal. Could Duke and Clemson be on a collision course for the ACC Championship game? Still too early to tell.

FUN FACT:  There are only 16 unbeaten teams left.  Only two play each other this weekend.  TCU vs Kansas.  Willing to bet that it’s on the picks. (Editors note: It’s on the picks)
On to Pick’ems….
Well, that went exceptionally well for a lot of us.  Five of us only had the FSU loss.  Can you imagine five people getting all perfect weeks?  Thanks a lot Florida State.  Instead, you let some old 77-year old bionic women beat us all.  She still only gained one spot and is 19 points from the top.
I can’t tell if Adam is more upset about Florida State losing or Hurricane Ian dropping a big tree on his fence and now has to go buy a chainsaw. But my guess is Florida State, as it took him two days to finally take a call from Sam. Sorry Adam, but you should be used to it by now. But at least you are still in 1st place. That is your consolation prize. But with you going 8-points on Florida State, that allowed David to get within three points. My advice, go 1-point on Florida State this week. David wants to see you go down. We cannot let that happen.

The top four spots went unchanged as it is Adam, David, me, and Megan. Cindy moved up a spot after nailing 52 points and sits behind Megan three points. I think Sean and Stemple have decided to check out and are only playing for "I don’t want to finish last for the adults”. Mike and Marc are doing their best to stay afloat and not lag too far behind. But Mike’s picks are starting to look a lot like Auburn’s on the field performance. Are you going to blame Emma on that too? Is it Emma’s fault for Auburn blowing a 17-0 lead?
And I don’t know how many times I get tired of hearing from Sam after every game "Mom, what place am I in?” Son, you are still next to last. That will not change unless Noah passes you. But at the rate Noah is going, I don’t think his position will change.

Most points for the week: Mom had an outstanding 54 out of 55 points. Old geezer still has it in her.

Least points for the week: With the downing of Oregon State, Sean had a bad week only netting 36 points. I mean 36 points is not terrible, but when everyone else had a GREAT week, yours just wasn’t to par. Hopefully Megan made you a good meal and rubbed your feet to make you feel better????? But my guess is her and Jacob have a black eye right now. Hey Megan, you should send a selfie to prove me wrong.

Best pick of the week: Mom and Noah not buying into the "FSU is back” garbage. Well, Noah just goes against the grain and mom probably just got lucky and accidently hit Wake Forest.

Worst pick of the week: Noah had a few peculiar picks. 6 on NC State, 5 on WVU??

Here are the rankings:
1.Adam -208 points
2.David - 205 points
3.Wendi - 195 points
4.Megan – 193 points
5.Cindie - 190 points
6.Evelyn - 189points
7.Mike - 185 points
8.Marc - 181 points
9.Stemple - 180 points
10.Sean - 174 points
11.Sam - 158 points
12. Noah - 145 points
Good luck this week!   There is already a 63-point difference from first to last.
