Upsets Galore

College Football is so fun!
There were some big notable upsets in College Football. Texas Tech stunned #11 Iowa State 23-22. The other #11 team, Clemson got whacked by Louisville 33-21 in a game that was never really in doubt. South Carolina shocked #10 Texas A&M 44-20 and Houston did the unthinkable by beating #17 Kansas State 24-19.
There were some close calls with some top ranked teams as well. Florida gave #2 Georgia everything they could handle before pulling away late and Duke was leading #5 Miami for good stretches of the game but finally ran out of gas and fell 53-31.
And Michigan was tied with #1 Oregon…prior to kick-off. Yeah, that was meant to poke fun at Wendi.
In a battle for Big 10 Supremacy, #4 Ohio State outlasted #3 Penn State 20-13 in a game that never felt that close. Yeah, there were some momentum swings in Penn State’s favor, but you just had the feeling that Penn State head coach James Franklin couldn’t get his team over the hump. Our picks reflected that.
In another Top 25 matchup, #18 Pittsburgh took their undefeated record and traveled to Dallas, Texas to take on #20 SMU in a high stakes game in the ACC. The Pitt Panthers got stomped 48-25. The Mustangs led 31-3 at the half.
The Minnesota Gophers are on a four-game winning streak after taking down #24 Illinois 25-17. In fact, the Gophers had to rally in the 4th quarter which I’m sure made several of us squirm in our seats.
In another butt puckering game, Syracuse rallied in the second half after trailing Virginia Tech 14-3. The Orange scored 28 second half points which forced the game into overtime. One costly turnover by Virginia Tech in overtime secured the Syracuse 38-31 victory.
UCF clubbed Arizona 56-12 in the rain. UCF was on fire from the start and never looked back. The Wildcats were overmatched after UCF piled up 602 yards of offense. In fact, the Knights out rushed Arizona 308 yards to 5!
Washington outlasted USC 26-21 in a game where USC could have won. Two offensive possessions for the Trojans within the Washington 5-yard line netted 0 points.
TCU and Baylor had a wild game too. TCU kept piling up points, but Baylor scored late and held on to win the game 37-34.
Auburn looked really bad against Vanderbilt in their 17-7 loss. That is all.
What wasn’t close was Iowa’s dismantling of Wisconsin 42-10 and Arizona State’s 42-21 beating of Oklahoma State. Okie State is on a six game losing streak.
On to Pick’ems…
The smart side of the Meggers’ family gave week 10 the middle finger with Megan hanging 46 points, Mike M. ripping off 45 points, and Rick snagging 44 points.
Rick finally decided to pick himself off the mat after hearing all the jokes said around the dinner table at his expense. He went from the very bottom to the middle of the pack thanks to a couple of good weeks.
After his Week 9 performance, Mike H. went from having a parade and being the most popular kid in school to the bullied kid all within a week. The Week 10 bully sucker punched Mike in the face, kicked him in the crotch while everyone watched, took his girlfriend, and even stole his lunch money. Mike still doesn’t even know about the sign on his back that says, ‘kick me’.
Marc’s picks are Jekyll and Hyde. One week, he’s staying at a five-star hotel, then the very next week, he’s pushing a shopping cart down the road with all of his belongings inside of it looking for a place to stay.
Remember that time Evelyn won $20 in weekly prize money in the first three weeks? Well, hard times have fallen on her as she sits at the very bottom begging on the corner for points. But she’s in good company…Kim is with her.
Meanwhile, Wendi still doesn’t want to give up control of first place without a fight. She’s held onto it now for three straight weeks. Five points behind her are Cindie and Sam who are patiently waiting for her to stumble.
Most Points for the week: Megan decided to get in the fun after nabbing 46 points in a very difficult week. She took home the weekly $10 prize and even had it delivered in person!
Least Points for the week: It’s astounding how much can change in a week. Last week Mike nailed all 55 points. This week, 11 points. He was so desperate for points that he probably went looking underneath couch cushions as if one was looking for spare change.
Best Pick of the week: Mike M. and Wendi taking a stab at Syracuse beating Virginia Tech turned out pretty well. Most everyone else lost big points on Virginia Tech.
Worst Pick of the week: Mom going 8 points on Penn State beating Ohio State was a bit of a head scratcher. As a result, you’re probably not even surprised she’s at the bottom.
There’s only four more weeks left in the contest!!!!
Here’s how we rank heading into Week 11:
