The Origins of "Shat”

What does David, a shark and a cat have in common?  While you think about that, let’s talk football.

Well, at least this was a better week for most from last week.  Wake Forest and Army went back in forth in a shootout but with turnovers, Army was not able to get the win and lost 70-56.  Kansas State was able to take the final lead late in the game to outlast Texas Tech 25-24.  With that, lots of us lost some pretty decent sized points.  It seems that once schools in Texas have a double-digit lead in the first half, they seem to lose the game.  It must be something in the water in Texas.

Fortunately for us, the Georgia State and Texas State game was not televised.  I imagine it wasn’t too much of an interesting game but what can I say, it was on the picks.  For those who don’t know, Georgia State won 28-16.  So that means, another Texas team lost… but they were never in the lead by double digits.

After Purdue’s big win over #2 Iowa last weekend, they could not get the W at home against Wisconsin.  They tied at the half at 13 but was unable to score again and Wisconsin won 30-13.  As most of us already know, Ed Oregon will no long be the head coach of LSU.  Rumor has it that he has lost his locker room, both players and coaches.  With that, does that explain LSU’s recent performance on the field?  LSU never stood a chance with Ole Miss as they routed them 31-17.  The only thing Coach O could do was shake his head on the sidelines.   Should he even care since he has one foot out the door?

Now with 3 losses, Clemson has taken a drop in the ACC rankings.  Honestly, who would have thought Pitt and Wake Forest would be the best teams in the ACC?  Pitt was able to go up 14-7 in the 2nd half and never looked back.  Poor Dabo.  Another game in the ACC was Boston College and Louisville.  Boston College scored first but was only able to muster 7 more points for the rest of the game and lost 28-14.

In the evening out west, San Diego State handled business against Air Force with the final being 20-14 and the Aztecs remain unbeaten.  Fresno State was able to hold off Nevada 34-32It was a strong offensive show for both teams as they had 984 total yards of offense.  And Sean and his Beavers were able to get the big win over Utah 42-34.  Sean says we should ALWAYS pick Oregon State and they are the best team in the nation.  Okay, so maybe that is not EXACTLY what he said but I know that is probably what he thinks.

FUN FACT:  There are only 9 remaining teams unbeaten.

On To pick’ems…

Back to the question I asked you earlier in the article.

Once upon a time on a farm called McDonald, the Grandmother and Grandfather had their 2 grandchildren visiting for the summer.  Without offending the 2 young grandchildren, the grandparents thought it would be funny to come up with an "alternate” bad word so the kids would not realize.  So they asked the kids "What do you get when you mix a shark and a cat?”  With the 2 kids looking quizzically, the grandparents said "A Shat”.  At this point, the eldest grandchild quickly caught on to what was going on but the youngest really thought that it was something real and said "I know it sounds like a bad word but it’s not”.  And that is how it all got started.  So now we know what David, a cat and a shark all have in common.  It’s a shat and so were David’s picks this weekend. And the shat show marches on.

PRETENDERS OF THE WEEK: So I think I know how this went down: Cindy and David were on the phone.  They were talking about the picks and decided it was a good idea to call Jacob on 3 way to discuss picks.  How did that all go for them?  Well, David finished at the bottom and Cindy and Jacob finished next to last tied.  They were the only ones who finished in the 20’s for the week.  The last 3 games really hurt David, Mike and Cindy by losing all 3.  Mike continues his fall and finished with 31 points.  Noah was on the cusp with 35 points.

CONTENDERS OF THE WEEK:  We all know mom and Marc are pretty much running away with this contest to the point where it is getting harder to keep pace and keep up.  Megan is quietly sneaking up into the ranks and is now in 3rd.  It’s a tale of the 3M” s.  First it was Mom, Mike and Marc.  Now it is Mom, Marc and Megan.  Adam, Kim and Cindy are still hanging around in the middle just wanting on people to start dropping like flies.  Well, it isn’t letting up anytime soon so it may be time for ya’ll to start taking some risks.  Stemple and Sean still holding on to hope as well sitting at 4th and 5th place.  Sam still bragging about how he isn’t in last all these weeks compared to last year.  True story.

Most points for the week:  Naturally and not shockingly, Mom has rightfully earned her place on the throne with a 13-point lead over second.  She got 52 points (which I think is a high the season).  I know I am not the only one wanting her to fall, right?

Least points for the week:  With David only getting 23 points, he is now swimming at the bottom with the mere bottom feeders.  Welcome to the "basement”.   Say what you want about Jacob, but he still beat you this week.

Best pick of the week:  Megan, Sean, Stemple and Noah rolling the dice on Oregon State beating Utah.  Way to support your man, Megan!  Jacob doesn’t seem to have those same sentiments though.  Is he grounded?

Worst pick of the week:  Jacob lost his 10, 8, 7, 6.  He is throwing his high points around like Mardi Gras beads on Bourbon Street. It is probably safe to say that Jacob gets his advise from the family dog Bolt.

Here are the rankings:

1.Mom -323 points

2.Marc – 310 points

3.Megan - 281 points

4.Sean - 277 points

5.Stemple - 274 points

6.Kim – 274 points

7.Adam - 266 points

8.Cindy - 255 points

9.Mike - 253 points

10.Samuel - 251 points

11.David - 250 points

12.Wendi - 248 points

13.Noah - 241 points

14.Jacob – 223 points

There is a 100 point difference from first to last.

Welcome to David’s shat show and good luck this week on the pickems.
