It’s nearly fall and that means we get to welcome back College Football and the College Pick’ems Contest! College Football, we’ve missed you. There is nothing like the feeling of anger, frustration, and glee during fall Saturdays.
So what happened last season besides Georgia winning the natty (again) and Michigan losing another playoff game?
We had an exciting, drama filled-finish in last year’s contest as the top three prize winners (Wendi, Megan, and David) were only ONE POINT from each another… Adam was oh so close to winning some money…until he wasn’t. More on that in a moment. Meanwhile, the bottom three were the kids Stemple, Sam, and Noah.
Speaking of last year’s contest, the highest point total for any given week was Mom during week 5 with 54 points. She was one point away from perfection. The lowest point total for any given week was Mike with 10 points during week 13. And before the excuses start to roll out of his mouth, he also had a 14 point day during week 10. Even Noah and Sam can shake their head in disgust.
So here’s a neat stat from last year...Adam was in the top three spots in 12 of the 14 weeks, but somehow finished in 4th place and NO money. A few of us know what happened, but the phrase, ‘you play stupid games; you win stupid prizes’ really applies here.
On to this year, the first week of picks will be spread across a few days to take advantage of some big non-conference games like the Florida at Utah match-up and the LSU at Florida State game (cue Adam with the eye roll). So this means the first pick game will begin on August 31st. Eight other games will be played on September 2nd , and the final game on Sunday September 3rd. After the first week, all of the other pick games will be played on Saturdays.
As always, there will be weekly columns, known as ‘The Previous Play is Under Review,’ after each weekend of college football posted on to the website which will also generate an email to your account. However, the more readable version will be on the website.
So let’s get to the reason you’re really reading this. Similar to the past few years, the top 3 finishers will receive cash prizes.
1st Place - $108
2nd Place - $54
3rd Place - $18
Week 1 picks will be live next week. Don’t worry, we’ll let you know when they are ready. You will have until August 30th to submit those picks.
Welcome back and good luck!
