A Little Humility Will Not Hurt Anyone
Written by Wendi
It literally took a scoop and score to tie and a game winning missed field goal by Clemson to get to OT for Florida State to beat Clemson in Death Valley. Except for that costly turnover, Clemson dominated the whole game. Lucky for us (unless your name is Megan), we were able to cash in on the winnings.
As in usual Notre Dame fashion, they choked so hard that they could not stop multiple 4th downs on Ohio State’s last TD drive that allowed the SBuckeyes to win. No that is not a typo. You had ONE JOB Notre Dame. You were completely not prepared for the last play with only 10 men on the field and 3 or 4 linemen on the line. You act like this was your first "big game”. Ok, so I may be bitter. Let’s face it, I despise anything Ohio State.
Iowa still has offensive issues even with their new QB as they couldn’t even get any points on the board and got blown out 31-0. Maybe he should stop smack talking in interviews and just play the game. Or instead of talking about "you aren’t use to being part of a team that can score on defense”, you worry about your own team’s turnover rate since you had four of them. Ok, it seems I am bitter about this too. I was rooting for the guy until all the smack talk about Michigan. <rant over, I promise>.
This afternoon was filled with multiple ranked PAC 12 teams. 11th ranked Utah was in a defensive slug fest with 22nd ranked UCLA but was able to outlast the Bruins 14-7. Washington State obliterated Oregon State but allowed them to get a little too close for comfort at the end as the score was only 38-35. The Beavers scored 21 points alone in the fourth quarter.
I would like to say that "Colorado made Bo Nix look like he was Tom Brady.” It was hard to type that without laughing but boy did the Ducks come out angry. Maybe Oregon felt disrespected or maybe it was "personal”. Either way, the Buffalos fell flat in an ugly beatdown 42-6.
Things got a little dicey in Tuscaloosa until Bama was able to get their act together in the second half to win 24-10. With a showing of three quarterbacks for Auburn, they only combined for a total of 56 passing yards against Texas A&M. It appears the whole state of Alabama has QB issues. Wonder what the Iron Bowl will look like this year?
FUN FACT: Missouri and Kentucky are quietly undefeated and the *best* teams in the SEC aside from Georgia..LOL Sad state of affairs this season for the SEC.
On to the Pick’ems…
It could have been a lot worse.
Well, the good news is, I didn’t have to change the 8th place spot at the bottom of the page. But at least you are consistent Cindy. Heck, you even finished 8th place for the week. (8) appears to be your lucky number this year. May need to buy a lotto ticket with the number 8 on it.
Not only did Sam take a hit in his own football game Saturday that left him on the ground for a few minutes with a bruised and sore arm to show for, his picks took a bad hit as well. He took a nosedive from being in first place for two weeks to sixth place overall. Another bad week like that will land him close to Sean, Marc and Mom. That’s never good company to be around. Sorry, not sorry.
Sean fell off of the wall like Humpty Dumpty but I am not sure if he can be put back together again. Something must give Sean. 10 on Ole Miss and 7 on Colorado?
I made it to first place but there is only one place to go from here…….I know it won’t last. But wishful thinking. Noah and David are on me like white on rice. I don’t know if I can handle the pressure this early on.
Marc had a stellar week and he needed it more than ever. Now he sits one point behind the person in front of him. Can he overcome last place this week and send mom or Sean to the cellar? We shall see after the chaos unfolds this weekend.
Stemple also had a better showing than the previous week. What will his next move be? Up or down? Megan was able to make a move up. I guess she finally wanted to separate from Sean and be independent in her own picks. I can hear it now, "I can’t win anything if we are in cahoots Sean”.
And Mom, you use to be competitive. As Jacob would say "What Bappened?” Mike is quietly making his move up. Will it stay that way or will Emma somehow get blamed for a bad week when and if it happens?
Most points for the week: Noah *ONCE AGAIN* <eye roll> got $10 for hitting 48 points. Good for you Noah, good for you! I am not at all jealous. <whispers softly "stupid Notre Dame”>
Least points for the week: Winning only four games, Sean took this spot with only 27 points.
Best pick of the week: Marc and Mike picking Washington State over the Beavs of Oregon State.
Worst pick of the week: Who goes 10 on Ole Miss? Sean Meggers apparently does. The Lane Train derailed right along with Sean’s dumpster dive next to last place.
Here are the rankings:
1.Wendi - 164 points
2.Noah - 163 points
3.David - 160 points
4. Mike - 156 points
5. Adam - 155 points
6.Sam - 152 points

8.Stemple - 144 points
8. Cindy - 144 points
10.Evelyn - 143 points
11.Sean - 134 points

Good luck this week! There is a 31-point difference from first to last.
