"What do you do with $1.8 Million Dollars?”

Written by: Wendi

As you know, all FBS schools will pay an FCS school or a low-level FBS school from a non-Power 5 conference to schedule a non-conference game.  I would imagine this is how the conversation goes:

Power 5 Team: <dials low level team> Hello, this is the athletic director for this university, we would like to schedule a non-conference game with your team, what do you say?

Non-Power 5 Team: Well, you know it will cost you.

Power 5 Team: Yes, we know.  How much do you want to come into our stadium so we can beat you? <silently chuckles>.

Non-Power 5 Team: It will be $1.8 Million.  We need to make some upgrades to our athletic facility.

Power 5 Team: Excellent, we will cut you a check and can’t wait to see you!

Non-Power 5 Team: So, do you think we have a chance or will it be a blowout?

Power 5 Team: You don’t have a chance unless hell "freezes” over.

Non-Power 5: Alright, BET! Game on!

So let’s just say "hypothetically” that the Non-Power 5 Team did win?  What happens?  It’s funny you should ask!

As a 25-point underdog, the Aggies rolled into Jordan-Hare Stadium and seriously put the beatdown on Auburn.  No, not the Texas A&M Aggies.  The New Mexico State Aggies.  Maybe Auburn was complacent or looking ahead, but to lose by 21 points?  Has anyone done a welfare check on Emma or Priscilla lately?

A couple of ACC games started us off early.  Louisville travelled to Miami in hopes of a win to make it to the ACC Championship Game.  It was closer than a lot of us wanted it to be.  On a failed Hail Mary that almost didn’t fail, Miami couldn’t pull off the upset and lost 38-31.  North Carolina went into Death Valley and for some off reason, Clemson is looking better than earlier in the season.  I Guess you can never count Dabo out.  Clemson easily rolled 31-20 and faces their inconsistent in state rival South Carolina this weekend.

After losing two straight games due to their starting quarterback being injured, the once undefeated Air Force hosted a good UNLV team.  In what I expected to be a blowout for UNLV, Air Force kept it uncomfortably close.  I mean, Air Force did lose to Hawaii.  No one loses to Hawaii.  UNLV squeaked by 31-27.

I won’t waste my time but USC sucks.  They now have 5 losses.  Guess no back-to-back Heisman for Mr. Caleb Williams.

It was all NC State leading Virginia Tech up until the 4th quarter 35-14.  However, the Wolfpack let off the gas and allowed the Hokies to score 14 unanswered points to get within one score.  But out of time outs, Virgina Tech lost 35-28.

I know a few of us were surprised that Utah got blown out by Arizona 42-18.  After starting the season 3-3, the Wildcats have won 5 straight games including wins over Washington State, Oregon State, and UCLA which were all ranked at the time.  Beating Utah meant they have beaten 4 ranked teams.

It was a wet mess in Corvalis as Washington traveled to take on Sean’s Beavers.  In a low scoring 22-20 game, the Huskies stayed undefeated and face Oregon again in the Pac-12 Championship.  Will Washington beat them again or can Bo Nix get his revenge?

It took overtime for Wisconsin to put Nebraska away 24-17.  Wisconsin is now bowl eligible and is set to play Minnesota this weekend.  Nebraska will need to win this weekend against Iowa to get bowl eligible.

After starting 2-6, South Carolina has won 3 straight which includes their 17-14 win over Kentucky.  Remember when Kentucky was 5-0?  Me neither.  Even though Texas beat Iowa State 26-16, you still can’t convince me that they are "back”.

FUN FACT:  Did I mention Auburn lost to New Mexico State?  James Madison lost their first game against App State.  Virginia beat Duke.  Arkansas State blew out Texas State 77-31????

On to Pick em’s…

Well that gap from first and second has closed quickly in the past couple of weeks.  Noah now only holds an 8-point lead over David who shoved his way into second.  As usual, Megan had a good week after suffering a bad one last week.  So that means next week, she will be a dumpster fire again.  Too many flip flops.  Megan can’t make up her mind on a good or bad week just as much as Sam having a different favorite team each year.  Mike, Adam, Sam, and I are vying to get a chance at some money to hit 3rd place.  Could it be possible that two kids take up two of the top 3 places?  Now wouldn’t that be something?  If that happens, we should all just quit and be embarrassed.

Mike had an awful showing and checked himself out of rehab second place and dropped to fifth place.  I am almost willing to bet that if I called Priscilla, she would tell me that Mike had a serious hangover on Sunday and possibly still does.

Marc and Sean didn’t fare much better.  Sean, Stemple, and Marc are all fighting for "I don’t want to come in last place” at this point.  Bad news is, there are only two weeks left.  The Good news is, there is always next year.

With only two weeks left, can Noah hang on just a bit longer or can someone overtake him?  Can Cindy get her coveted 8th place back from mom, or will she settle on 9th or lower?

Most points for the week:  Megan and Adam tied at 44 points which means next week’s prize will be $20.

Least points for the week:  After a perfect week, Mike quickly fell to 5th place by only getting 23 points.  Let’s just put it this way.  By 6pm local time, Mike only had 7 points for the day from the first six games.  Good thing he won three out of the last four games.

Best pick of the week:   Adam, Megan, David, Sean, and Marc for picking Arizona over Utah.

Worst pick of the week:  USC still sucks!

Here are the rankings:

1.Noah - 457 points

2. David - 449 points

3. Megan - 443 points

4. Wendi - 439 points

5. Mike - 435 points

5. Sam - 435 points

6. Adam - 433 points

7. Evelyn - 420 points

8. Cindy - 408 points

9. Sean - 395 points

10. Stemple - 394 points

11. Marc - 389 points

Good luck this week!  There is a 68-point difference from first to last.
