"FSU Got Robbed….Yeah, I said it”
Written by Wendi
Well, outside of the Army/Navy game this weekend, the regular college football season has ended and it was and still is filled with controversy. Rightfully so.
On Friday evening, undefeated Liberty hosted New Mexico State (who beat Auburn by 21 points). In a back-and-forth game, the Flames came out on top 49-35 and won Conference USA.
Oregon got another crack and Washington in hopes of making it to the College Football Playoffs. But instead of getting the victory, Bo Nix will have to play (unless he sits out) Liberty in the VRBO Fiesta Bowl. Washington would go on to win 34-31 and are set to play Texas in the playoffs.
On Saturday, Oklahoma State and Texas started off our day. We all knew Texas was going to steamroll the Cowboys and of course they did 49-21 to win the BIG XII. Toledo and Miami (OH) played at Ford Field in Detroit for the MAC Championship. Toledo had two turnovers despite outgaining the Red Hawks in total yardage and lost 23-14. I would call it an upset in MAC terms.
UNLV had home field advantage against Boise State but apparently the Rebels did not have a 12th man. The Broncos cruised 44-20 to win the Mountain West Conference and will play UCLA in the Starco Brands LA Bowl. Sounds fun.
Anddddd for the main event… 8th ranked Bama took on top ranked Georgia in Atlanta. This game was literally decided by just a few mistakes. Georgia had one turnover but let Bama get too far ahead. Bama’s defense was able to keep Bowers and McConkey at bay. Bama upsets Georgia 27-24 which landed them at the number four position in the playoffs. I will bite my tongue on those feelings because I know David would edit them.
<Editor’s note: Perhaps >
Tulane hosted SMU for the AAC Championship. Tulane jumped out ahead first but SMU was
able to match their score. Tulane would
only score once more and SMU won 26-14.
SMU’s field goal kicker got a workout in and scored the final 12 points
of the game (4 field goals).
Troy also had home field advantage in the Sun Belt
Championship. It was all Trojans
49-23. Troy scored four touchdowns in
the fourth quarter alone and their running back had a record setting day with
scoring five of those touchdowns. Go
Troy!
With their 3rd string quarterback in, Florida
State would need all the help they could to beat Louisville in the ACC
Championship game. And luckily for them,
they have a stellar defense and held the Cardinals to only six points. It wasn’t a pretty win… but as they say, a
win is a win and they will stay undefeated by winning 16-6. However, they were left out of the
playoffs. Why have "5” Power Five
Conferences and only "4” spots. You may
say that there is always next year with the 12 team play off, but how about you
tell that to those who came back their last year instead of going to the NFL
Draft. There is no next year for
them………I call BS.
Eh, we all knew Michigan was going to beat Iowa. There was a sports bar in Iowa that was
giving away free beer until Iowa scored.
Uh, I bet they lost a lot of money in those 3-4 hours since Iowa never
scored. But on the bright side of it, it
was free marketing for future business.
Michigan went on to win 26-0 in their 3rd straight conference
title and will face Alabama in the Rose Bowl.
FUN FACT:
FSU GOT ROBBED!!!!
On to Pickem’s…
David needed his other entry Noah to lose the head-to-head picks. David was able to win two of them to take over the top spot. Rumor has it that Noah woke up crying when he found out he wasn’t in first place, but David assured him they were splitting the money since Noah was his second entry. <Editor’s Note: Noah did tear up, but that last line was fabricated>
And for once this season, Cindy finally won something. And no, it wasn’t a trophy for who stayed in 8th place the longest. It was for scoring the most points. Even Sean had a good day. Mom really needed a Louisville win as she was banking on the third stringer for FSU to do crappy. Which in all fairness, he didn’t look great, but FSU had the better defense. Maybe you should quit listening to Marc for your picks. <Editor’s Note: That last line is true>
Me, Megan, Adam, Sam, and Mike were fighting for 3rd place but Sam and I suffered five losses on the picks. Mike lost his 9 on Oregon which was costly. Adam threw out some Hail Mary’s that didn’t go his way, but he was banking on that 0.01% of an upset.
Well for those of you who didn’t win, bowl season is approaching quickly, and you will have another go at bragging rights and money. Will the bottom tier do better in the bowls or will they continue to be bottom dwellers? Yeah, I said it. Can David, Noah and Megan lock up the top three spots again? Can Cindy finally stay out of 8th place?
Most points for the week: Cindy won with 43 points and won $30 since
the last two weeks had been ties. There
is half of your bowl entry Cindy.
Least points for the week: Marc had 28 points but only had 1-point
at 6pm local time as Megan quickly pointed out.
Best pick of the week: Cindy, Sean, Stemple, and Mike picking Boise State of UNLV.
Worst pick of the week:
Although I know they were Hail Mary’s, but Marc and Adam picking
Iowa over Michigan. That was dumb. <Editors Note: Maybe they just don’t
like Michigan>
Here are the final rankings:
1.David - 546 points
2. Noah - 543 points
3. Megan - 531 points
