"Winner, Winner, Cheater Dinner??”
Written by Wendi
After a slow start in Madison in the first quarter, Bama was able to shake off the cobwebs and get to work. Not to anyone’s surprise, Bama beat the Badgers 42-10. If there is any indication between that game and Sam’s football game, it may have looked like Bama was playing Sam’s 12U team. Sam’s team lost 41-0. It was so bad they shortened the 3rd and 4th quarters to four minutes instead of eight.
If any team could ever let me down (aside from Michigan….and maybe Flori-duh State), it was South Carolina. How do you blow a 17-0 lead at home? I really needed that win. LSU scored a touchdown with just over a minute left in the game. South Carolina missed a field goal to tie for OT and lost 36-33. That keeps me in the cellar for another week. <kicks garbage can>
For us "idiots” that surely thought Flori-duh State could not and would not go 0-3 were mistaken immensely. Note to self – NEVER pick them…Note to Admin – never PUT them on the picks…EVER! AGAIN! Memphis crushed any hope in Tallahassee 20-12. DJ U is not the answer coach. Try something new. What is the worst that can happen? Flori-duh State is now one of twelve remaining FBS schools that have not won a single game this year. They are the only winless Power 5 4 team. Let that sink in.
North Texas stood no chance in Lubbock again the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Tech beat the Mean Green 66-21. Wonder if those second half quarters were shortened too? LOL
You know, I am a little disappointed in the "Meggers” Family. The only one to pick Oregon State is Megan? I guess "money > loyalty”? Jokes on you, you still didn’t win the weekly prize. But it’s a good thing Oregon did win. You would have wished you never joined this group if the Beavers won and you went 10 on Oregon. Ok, so maybe I wouldn’t have been that harsh but I wouldn’t let you forget it. Ask the traitor David. Ducks cruised 49-14.
If there was any inclination that Florida sucks, Saturday proved it against Texas A&M. Maybe it is something they are putting in the water down in Florida? Well, no, that can’t be it. Miami is winning. Even FAU and FIU have a win. I wonder how many more losses Florida will incur before Billy Napier is canned? Aggies rolled 33-20 in the Swamp.
In the first Apple Cup being played after the conference realignment, how would this game fare? What is that saying? You can’t win by kicking field goals while the other team is scoring touchdowns. That holds true. The Huskies could not keep up with the Cougars and lost 24-19.
I honestly thought these last few games were a 50/50 tossup. Indiana traveled to the Rose Bowl to take on UCLA now as a conference rival – which is still weird to say. With too many turnovers, UCLA was unable to recover and lost 42-13. Big road win for the Hoosiers. UCF needed a late miracle comeback, and boy did they sure get it. Sam was already writing his obituary (he had 10 on UCF) when the Knights started roaring back. Come to think of it, Mike H. and Sean probably were too. They were able to hold TCU to field goals as they kept scoring touchdowns on back-to-back possessions. UCF outscored TCU 28-13 in the second half to win 35-34.
After starting 2-0, Virginia had their hands full with Maryland at home. The Terps forced four turnovers, kept Virginia scoreless in the second half and left the Cav’s with their first loss 27-13.
On to the Pick em’s…
I know we all don’t need a reminder of how bad or how good we were this week. Even if there were some shenanigans happening. Maybe there’s truth to it, maybe not. But I will say this. Mom (Evelyn), I am copying your picks this week. You seem to be winning, and I seem to be…uhhh <looks at paper> losing. You better answer when I call so you can tell me who you’re picking.
But all in all, if the lowest person scored 40 points, that is a pretty good week all around. I thought this week was rather one of the more difficult weeks for the picks.
I know I mentioned it already, but you really should have seen Sam "sweating” that UCF pick. It looked like he had lost his best friend. As UCF completed their improbable comeback, his mood quickly changed, and he slept like a baby that night.
Has anyone heard from Adam after the FSU game? Sam tried to call him Saturday afternoon and we still haven’t heard back. Someone needs to do a welfare check. Kim – you live closer. I will text you his number and address.
<Looking at next week’s picks> Since I have no dog in this fight while sitting at the bottom <waves at Mike H>, at least I have loyalty to my team. Dang it, David! Why is Michigan on the picks again? FML
Just promise me and everyone else in this group, don’t put FSU back on. We beg you. Sam really needs his dad around.
Earlier in the week I was talking to Megan about picks. She stated Sean had already done part of his. I felt so bad because he got injured at work the next day and we were worried he wouldn’t be able to finish his picks. Well, the good news is, he was able to finish them and if you look at his picks, you can see which ones he did prior to the injury and the ones he did after. He lost the last four games in case you are wondering. So I’m guessing he did the first six picks prior to the injury??? You decide. Ok, so maybe I didn’t have that conversation with Megan, but it sounded good right?
Most points for the week: Somehow, we are STILL letting an old lady beat us. Evelyn takes her weekly prize...again!
Least points for the week: Although 40 points isn’t a terrible week, it just happens to be this week that Cindie was the lowest and everyone scored higher. See what I did there?
Best pick of the week: Evelyn, Kim, and Mike H going Washington State instead of Washington in the Apple Cup which meant everyone else lost some juicy points.
Worst pick of the week: At least I wasn’t the only one to pick Flori-duh State.
Here are the rankings after Week 3:
1. Evelyn – 123 points
2. Marc – 122 points
3. Mike M. – 118 points
4. Sean – 114 points
