"Auburn Sucks, They Really, Really Do”
Written by Wendi
West Virginia was down going into the long weather delay but came back to win 32-28 once playing resumed. I am starting to think West Virginia needs to have a closed-in stadium. This is their second weather delay this year.
Raise your hand if you honestly thought Clemson would blow out NC State? After struggling all season, I did not think it was possible. I knew NC State was not as good this year, but are they really that bad? Clemson was up 45-7 going into halftime and would go on to win 59-35. Wowzers.
So how about those Wolverines? Michigan was able to contain USC’s potent offense in the first half and led 14-3. USC made the right halftime adjustments while Michigan struggled to move the ball. After a pick-6 and a late touchdown, Michigan was able to get a big win 27-24. Michigan only had 32 passing yards. Why do we not have a decent QB that can throw? So frustrating.
After the beatdown Texas Tech gave North Texas last week, most of us felt confident they could handle business against Arizona State at home. It was not a dominate win, but as they say, "a win is a win.” The Red Raiders won 30-22.
If you like turnovers, the Arkansas vs. Auburn was THE game to watch. There was a total of seven turnovers. To quote from the Week 2 article – "Auburn sucks”. Make me change my mind. As a matter of fact, I would be content never seeing them on the picks again. Make it happen.
Tied at 17 at the half, LSU’s defense stepped up and kept UCLA scoreless and won 34-17. With everyone going high on LSU, I am sure we all had the same thought – "I saw what I needed to see in the UCLA / Indiana last week.”
After I heard that Utah’s QB Cam Rising was expected to play against Oklahoma State, I did not hesitate putting my points on Utah. Once game time started, I started to panic as he was not in the game. Somehow, Utah did not need him to win on the road. Utah seemed to be running away with the game, but the Cowboys scored two late touchdowns to get within a few points but there just wasn’t enough time on the clock. The Utes went on to win 22-19.
TCU outgained SMU in total yards, time of possession and first downs. But TCU had five costly turnovers which was the big difference in the game. Three of SMU’s touchdowns were a fumble return, punt return, and a pick six. Can’t win like that. SMU won big 66-42.
In the overhyped matchup of the week (yes, they overhyped this game way too much), Tennessee traveled to Oklahoma in Oklahoma’s first SEC game since joining the conference. How did it go? Well, I think Oklahoma exposed some of Tennessee’s weaknesses. Tennessee’s defense looks to be solid. But then again, Oklahoma struggled to find any rhythm on offense and even benched their starting QB. Vols went on to win 25-15.
Iowa has scored a total of 128 points in just four games. Last year, they had a total of 216 all season to include the conference championship game and the bowl game. Can they keep the momentum going and score more points than last year? Minnesota led by a touchdown at the half, but Iowa’s defense stepped up and held Minnesota scoreless in the second half and won 31-14.
FUN FACT: There are currently 26 undefeated teams.
On to the Pick'ems…
Who is glad that their name is not Mike right about now? Both Mike’s scored below 30 points and are sitting at the bottom for this week. One Mike is at the bottom overall while the other is making his way down to meet him. But hey, it got me out of last place, so thanks!
Can you believe Adam is trying to blame me for his pick decisions? When doing his picks, he had Michigan picked and "claimed” I talked him out of it. You never listened to me when we were married and NOW you decide you want to listen to me? I mean, at least you didn’t go high on USC like a bunch of others did. To be fair, I did think Michigan would lose.
I know I am wrong for this, but I was enjoying myself Saturday night watching the life being sucked out of David’s picks. What made it even better was watching it happen in person since he was at my house. He was regretting every minute of that Minnesota pick. Iowa is back David…Ok, I can’t say that without laughing.
Rick is waving the white flag of defeat and made his way down to the bottom just five points ahead of Mike H. But no worries, David and Noah are in the same situation (I’m trying to get out of that mess).
Megan and Cindie are tied for second place this week but overall are still in the middle of the pack. Cindie, think aggressive. You should have picked Utah like we talked about the other day. Sean is sitting in third place overall and I am sure Mike M and Rick will be calling him for advice this week for picks.
Even after a terrible week in picks, Evelyn is still somehow in second place and only sits one point behind Marc in first place.
With Sam’s stellar week, it jumped him from 7th and he is now tied at 3rd. Me, Kim, and Noah tied for 3rd this week but Kim benefited the most as it helped her slide up a few spots.
Most points for the week: First, we let an old lady beat us, now an 11-year-old beat us this week. Sam got the big win with 42 points and won the $10 weekly prize. Too bad his own football team lost this week, but I think he would have rather had the $10.
Least points for the week: Mike M. conjured up a mere 27 points for this week. Still think it was a good idea to join this group?
Best pick of the week: That 1 point I put on Michigan sure looks good. How ‘bout them Wolverines! This is what loyalty looks like and pays off...well, sometimes. GO BLUE!
Worst pick of the week: 7 points on NC State. Why Evelyn? Just why?
Here are the rankings after Week 4:
1. Marc – 159 points
2. Evelyn – 158 points
3. Sean – 152 points
4. Sam – 152 points
5. Kim – 150 points
6. Megan – 149 points
7. Cindie – 148 points
8. Adam – 147 points
9. Mike M. – 145 points
10. Noah – 142 points
11. David – 139 points
12. Wendi – 138 points
13. Rick – 135 points
14. Mike H. – 130 points
There is a 29-point difference from first to last place.
