This week we will all prepping for Thanksgiving celebration. Often during the Holidays, we find our routine schedules get out of whack. Many are traveling as me and my family will be, many are getting ready to host others into their home, many are prepping for the meal to come. We can Definitely say Thanksgiving week is not the routine for most of us. Often times These types of Holidays puts more stress on us as we are trying to accomplish the above things said. Even though it is Thanksgiving, there are times it ends up being resentful, feuding, strife, tiresome and many more issues we can name. So, what does it meant to be thankful? Glad you asked.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Ephesians 5:20 giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
When you start looking up verses in the Bible concerning thankful, giving thanks, thanksgiving, you will see a pattern of being thankful unto God. Not so much for each other, yes there are a few verses of that, but the majority will have us being thankful for God.
1 Chronicles 23:30 and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;
The Bible tells us to thank the Lord every morning, and to be thankful in everything, for that is the will of God. Often times we do find it hard to be thankful when we are going through the tough times. This week will be no exception, Sure, Thanksgiving day will get here and we will be all smiles and thankful on the surface, what about our hearts. We can go down a list and start sharing what we are thankful for. My list is very easy, my business, my wife, my children, my grandchildren, my family, I can go on and on and on.
Luke 6:33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
Though we definitely need to be thankful for those things I do believe it only touches the surface and can be somewhat selfish. I do believe our gratitude needs to be more directed toward God.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
We should be thankful, that even though we do the things we do, God loves us unconditionally. We can have the confidence God is always on our side, even when we are at our worst.
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
We should be thankful that God has and will give to us what is needed according to Him, not us. For he knows what is best for us at all times.
So those a re a few examples on how we can be thankful unto God. What are more examples you can think of? This coming week lets try to make a point to be more thankful to God for who he is and what He has done and is going to do in our lives.
