Have you ever wondered what time it is? I’m not taking clock time, but the timing in your life on what should I do, should be doing, have done, should not do. Ever feel like you are stagnant, and every day is the same. God tells us we have times we should be or should not be doing things. In this passage of scripture God lays out some very interesting phrases that sometimes we overlook.
ECCLESIASTES 3:1-8
(1)To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: (2)a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; (3)a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; (4)a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; (5)a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; (6)a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; (7)a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; (8)a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
What season are you in? I find it interesting as I was reading this that I do not pay attention to what season I am in. Then as I started thinking, I realize that at any given moment I am probably going through some of these at the same time. As I read through all of these, I find it interesting that God says some of these things. Time for war, Time for hate, Time to die, Time to lose, etc. You can view these as very negative, but in the end picture God is telling us about ups and downs we will face, and we will need to take certain actions. Throughout the Old Testament we saw a lot of wars and still today many conflicts are happening. Is it that time? There are things of this world we should hate; I can name many, especially anything that is against God’ s values. Time to Die, how would we know? Jesus knew exactly when it was for Him to die or not to die. John 7:6 He clearly says it is not His time, but it is our time. If you read from verse 1 you will get the context. That He purposely did not travel through a certain area for they sought to kill Him. And then we can go on and read about Jesus’s crucifixion and leading up to it Him telling His disciples of His upcoming death. (Could you imagine telling those close to you this is how I am going to die in the next few days.)
Think of what season you are in. Maybe in you are experiencing many of these at the same time. As I am getting ready to post this on the web site, I can say just in the past day many of my seasons have changed. Though some of them are like I said above seeming to be negative, we will always need to wait on God for His work to be perfectly accomplished. Some seasons are like very cold bitter winters, but we will need to stay true to our faith in God to help us through these times, good and bad.
